Executive Director
Gretchen Van De Carr has served as Executive Director of Rocky Mountain Youth Corps since founding the organization in 1993. Gretchen has a masters of science in Environmental Engineering from the University of New Hampshire. She was a founding member of the City of Steamboat Springs' Teen Programs and Community Youth Corps, Partners in Routt County, Community Evaluation Team, Grand Futures Prevention Coalition, and the Routt County Family and Adolescent Resource Council, and currently serves as a board director for the Colorado Youth Corps Association and the Craig-Scheckman Family Foundation Steering Committee. In 2009 the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation named Gretchen one of five 2009 Livingston Fellows. This program, created by the Foundation in 2005, intends to strengthen the state's nonprofit sector by investing in the advanced learning and development of promising nonprofit leaders. Gretchen is also the proud mom of two boys, Otis and Oliver. In addition to spending time with her family, she enjoys skiing, camping, hiking and making music.
Public Relations and Recruitment Manager
Sheila Wright has served in many capacities at RMYC since May of 2005. She is responsible for all media relations and managing all recruitment. Sheila is also the AmeriCorps grant manager. Additionally, she is responsible for recruiting and training over 200 community volunteers annually. She holds a BA from the University of Massachusetts in Economics. Sheila has over 17 years of sales, marketing and public relations experience and came to the RMYC as a liaison for the Routt County United Way. Her civic duties include Routt County United Way Past President and Campaign Chairperson and sits on the board for Partners in Routt County and has volunteered for Horizons disabled ski program for over 25 years. Sheila enjoys skiing, biking, hiking and generally anything that involves being outside.
Director of Programs
Mark Wertheimer has served with RMYC since December of 2005 as Program Director. He has a MS in Environmental Education from the Audubon Expedition Institute-a field-based, 2 year graduate program based out of Lesley University in Cambridge, MA. After serving as a Program Director for Living Classrooms Foundation in Baltimore, Field Director with Southwest Conservation Corps and a wilderness guide in Alaska, Mark has eagerly returned to Conservation Corps work in order to apply his studies and field experience. Mark is a member of the Steamboat Springs Education Fund Board Educational Excellence Commission, and as a member of the Grand Futures Prevention Coalition's advisory board. In addition to spending time with his wife. Mark enjoys snowboarding, cross country skiing, ice hockey, camping, playing music and hiking with his dog.
Director of Projects
Brandon Warren has been employed by RMYC since 2002 in various capacities including crew mentor, crew leader, and field coordinator. Brandon was promoted to Logistics Manager in September of 2006, and to Project Supervisor in October of 2007. In addition to being certified in Business Communications, Brandon's comprehensive knowledge of the field and project operations of the conservation corps matched with his attention to detail and extreme organizational skills are a great asset to the RMYC staff team.
Government Relations and Projects Manager
Scott Segerstrom joined RMYC as the Government Relations and Projects Manager in 2010 after previously serving three seasons as a crew leader with the Conservation Corps. He holds a BA in English from Roanoke College where he spent four years exploring the Blue Ridge and Shenandoah Mountains. After graduation he spent two years working for the Nobel laureate organization Mines Advisory Group International based in Washington, DC assisting in the removal of landmines and unexploded ordnance from conflict-affected communities around the world. Scott migrated back to the west working on the Bridger-Teton National Forest outside Jackson Hole, Wyoming as a Wilderness Ranger and Wildland Firefighter before returning to RMYC.

Recruitment Coordinator VISTA
Britni Johnson got her start with RMYC as a Crew Mentor and Crew Leader during the 2008 and 2009 seasons. In November 2009, she made the leap from field to office and now serves as the Corpsmember Recruitment Coordinator through the AmeriCorps VISTA program. Britni graduated from Michigan State University in 2008 with a BA in International Studies and Anthropolgy, with additional emphases in International Development and Business Administration. A self-proclaimed "culture -junkie," Britni has spent much of her young-adulthood abroad in places such as India, Peru, Morocco, and Thailand, and hopes to one day fuse her love of travel with her passion for sustainable agriculture and the environment. Drawn to Colorado from Chicago by the lure of the Rockies and her obsession with the great outdoors, it's not surprising that when not working or traveling, Britni can be found running, cycling, skiing, rock climbing, hiking, reading, gardening, cooking, and spending time with friends and family.
