The Service Learning Institute (SLI) program engages youth entering grades 6-9 in two week sessions in which they participate in a crew of eight youth and two adult leaders performing community service projects around Routt County. The service projects benefit nonprofits while the youth learn about citizenship, volunteerism, and leadership. The SLI experience also enhances the sense of belonging and connectedness of youth to their communities.
SLI was created in response to the prioritization of necessary youth services, as identified by the Routt County Youth Services Coalition in 2010. RMYC operates the program primarily in the summer and implements SLI activities in coordination with all schools in the country throughout the school year.
