What types of Crews are available to hire?

Regional Conservation Crew (RCC):

The RCC consists of 16-19 year old participants who have an interest in working in the outdoors for four weeks of the summer. These young people are recruited from the communities in which the project resides. Oftentimes, these youth come with prior experience in camping and working outdoors, but the major factor is their determination and enthusiasm.  These younger crews are made up of 6-8 youth, a Crew Leader and Assistant Crew Leader. They work a 40 hour work week and are an excellent choice for a shorter project or on projects that might logistically limit a larger crew.

Trail Crew:

The Trail crews consists of 18-25 year old participants who are considering a career in environmental conservation. These young adults are recruited from throughout the country, with preference given to those residing in the project communities. Many times, these young adults remain in the community they have been working in and pursue jobs through other project agencies beyond their service with RMYC.

Saw Crew:

RMYC Saw crews consist of 18-25 year old participants that are interested in timber, forestry and fire mitigation work.  Like the Trail crews, participants are recruited from throughout the nation, with preference given to those residing in project communities.  RMYC provides these crew members with additional safety training and wild land chainsaw use training and certification.  These crews are able to run chainsaws at a basic "A" sawyer level, capable of felling small diameter trees, limbing and bucking and chipping material.

What does it typically cost to hire an RMYC crew?

RMYC accomplishes its mission of linking community, education and environment through service with the completion of important, educationally rich conservation projects. Our primary funding comes from our earned income through projects, subsidized by an assortment of private and government grants and donations. We ask Project Sponsors to cover a portion of the costs for the work provided on a per-crew-week basis. These costs differ from year to year. For an exact number please call the Director of Operations, Ryan Olson. Often RMYC will partner with project sponsors to apply for a variety of grants that can cover these costs. RMYC staff is happy to assist with grant writing. Our commitment to quality projects and experiences for our crew participants allows us to be somewhat flexible with our fees in certain situations.
