The Service Learning Institute (SLI) finished up its first summer season and was a big success!

SLI is sponsored by the Routt County Youth Services Coalition and operated through RMYC. This summer SLI engaged twenty nine youth ages 10-14. These youth spent part of their summer completing 31 community projects and volunteered 3,045 hours.

The youths ’ efforts helped make Routt County a better place to live along with gaining  a sense of belonging to our community through education   and meaningful service projects. Some of the projects included planting seedlings at Steamboat Lake State Park; staining a deck at the Community Garden; and helping to build a new volleyball court at Howelsen Hill Beach.

Youth that completed at least 100 hours of service earned a $500 AmeriCorps Learn and Serve education award  to put towards college or trade school.
