YOUTH PROGRAMS

Through our Youth Programs, RMYC provides leadership and hands-on service experience for youth ages 11-18. Participants provide service to communities including beautifying, weeding, trail work, restoration, gardening, barbed wire fence maintenance, and other conservation-based projects in 10 counties in beautiful Northwest Colorado each year. RMYC offers skills training opportunities including trail work, environmental restoration, and wildlife habitat management. Participation involves hard work in tough conditions but makes for amazing memories and experiences.

As a Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) Crew Leader, you will lead crews of 10 young people on two or four-week sessions. You will provide a safe, yet adventurous space for youth to work hard, grow personally and professionally, and develop strong bonds with their crew.  We offer three different crew types: YCC Adventurers (6th-7th graders), YCC Trailblazers (8th-9th graders) and YCC Outdoor Leaders (10th-12th graders). These are two or four-week sessions with each crew where you are together camping, completing service projects, and recreating 24/7. Each age group camps in the front country and 8th-12th graders go on a backpacking expedition. You are expected to facilitate each age group in team building activities and experiential education activities throughout your time with them. Youth Crew Leaders are supported in the field by a Field Coordinator.  The Field Coordinator provides leadership and support for 4-5 crews operating on a 24/7 model and day crews. To find out more, check out our position descriptions below!

CONSERVATION CORPS

Since 2000, this cornerstone program of Rocky Mountain Youth Corps has served up to 150 young people ages 18-25+ each year through environmental conservation projects and education. RMYC offers a diverse set of hard skills training opportunities including trail work, fuel reductions, environmental restoration, recreation management, historic preservation, wildlife habitat management, and invasive species management.

Being part of an RMYC crew involves spending a season living and working with a team of 8-10 people and completing meaningful conservation projects throughout northwest Colorado and Wyoming. Corps members live and work together in a camping environment, completing priority projects during the week, and exploring the beautiful outdoor spaces of the Rocky Mountains on the weekends. Participation involves hard work in tough conditions, but makes for amazing memories and experiences.
