Parent, 2024
RMYC helped my children develop a strong work ethic. The service projects provided the perfect balance of self-development, community service and education in the natural resource field. This program is a great base for them to develop path in resource management in our community and beyond.

The Adventurers Program is open to youth entering grades 6 and 7 in the 2026-2027 school year. Since this program primarily operates as a day-program, we only accept Routt and Moffat County participants.
Sessions are two weeks long and operate incrementally from June 8-August 6, 2026 with no youth programs operating the week of July 6-10.
In the first week of the session, youth attend Monday through Thursday, 8 am to 4 pm. Generally, service projects are completed in the morning and recreation happens in the afternoon. You can find a more detailed sample schedule HERE
In the second week of the session, youth attend Monday through Thursday. On Monday, the program operates from 8am to 4pm. On Tuesday, members start at 8am to go on a frontcountry overnight Tuesday and Wednesday, returning Thursday. The session concludes with parent pickup at noon on the second Thursday of the session. Tents, cooking equipment and food for the overnight is provided. We recommend bringing your own sleeping bag and sleeping pad, however, we have them available if needed.

After you apply, an RMYC staff member will reach out to you with a placement email and program information. You will also receive a registration packet, medical form, and demographic form. You must complete this packet to be accepted officially into the program. You will receive program details two weeks prior to the start of your session.
RMYC staff work to respond within 2-3 weeks. We have had a high frequency of emails going to spam boxes recently, and we tend to have a high volume of applicants. If you still have not heard from us, please reach out to Kim Tholis at ktholis@rockymountainyouthcorps.com (970) 879-2135 ext 104
The Adventurers program receives many applications each year. We work to ensure that as many applicants as possible can participate in a session. If you would like to participate in more than one session, we are happy to place you on a waitlist.
There is a $300 registration fee for 6th-9th graders. Full and partial scholarships are available.
In your registration form you will have an option to select that you are applying for a full or partial scholarship. You will be prompted to provide information regarding your need for the scholarship. An RMYC youth programs staff member will reach out to you as promptly as possible with more information regarding your status in receiving the scholarship. Fill out a registration form HERE.

A typical day in Adventurers begins with a circle up and a couple of group games. We then transition to a service project for 2-3 hours with breaks and games in between, followed by lunch which is generally at the project site.
The afternoon consists of recreation and education activities such as swimming in a reservoir, nature scavenger hunts, learning from local naturalists, short hikes, or museums (generally if there are poor weather conditions).
Projects change from year to year and typically consist of gardening, trail maintenance, invasive plant removal, city clean-up, river clean-up, tree planting, and many other forms of service work for our community!
